Questions We Ask in Line Instead of “Are We There Yet?”
Because if I hear “how much longer” one more time… I may simply become a churro.
Lines are part of Disneyland. Sometimes they’re short and magical. Sometimes they’re long enough for your child to learn a new language, forget it, and then ask for a snack in the middle.
So instead of repeating “We’re almost there!” (we’re not), we play a simple game: conversation starters. They keep kids engaged, make adults laugh, and turn “waiting” into a little memory.
Here are our favorite Disneyland line questions—organized by vibe.
Quick & Easy Questions (Perfect for Little Kids)
These are fast, silly, and don’t require deep thinking (bless).
- If you could eat one Disneyland snack right now, what would it be?
- What’s your #1 ride you’d do again today?
- If you could meet any character right now, who would it be?
- Would you rather ride Dumbo all day or eat churros all day?
- What land are we in? What do you notice around you? (Signs, music, smells)
“Which Character Are You?” Questions
These always get laughs, especially when people start assigning roles.
- Which Disney character are you before coffee?
- Which character are you when you’re hungry?
- Which character are you on a hot day?
- Who in our family is most like Goofy / Elsa / Olaf / Stitch today?
- If our group was a movie, who’s the hero, who’s the sidekick, and who’s the villain? (This can get spicy—use with caution.)
Dream Attraction Prompts
These are so fun because everyone’s imagination goes wild.
- If you could create a brand-new ride, what would it be about?
- What would your ride vehicle be: boat, rocket, mine cart, teacup, or flying couch?
- What song would play on your ride?
- Would your ride be scary, silly, or cozy?
- What’s one movie that needs an attraction?
Bonus: Let kids “pitch” their ride like they’re Imagineers. The confidence is unmatched.
Would You Rather: Disneyland Edition
These are easy, funny, and surprisingly revealing.
- Would you rather have front row on a ride or the best snack in the park?
- Would you rather be soaked on a water ride or stuck in a long line with no snacks?
- Would you rather only ride dark rides or only ride roller coasters?
- Would you rather do rope drop or stay until closing?
- Would you rather take photos with characters all day or ride rides all day?
“Make a Plan” Questions (Great for Older Kids + Teens)
These trick them into problem-solving without realizing it.
- If you were in charge for the next hour, what’s the plan?
- What’s the best order to do things: snack, ride, bathroom, shop?
- If we had to pick only three things to do today, what are they?
- What’s your “one thing” you’ll be happiest we did?
This is also great for reducing meltdowns because everyone feels heard.
Silly Imagination Questions (The Best Distraction Tool)
These work when kids are restless or the line is crawling.
- If Disneyland had a petting zoo of Disney animals, which would you want to pet?
- If you could have a Disney sidekick follow you around all day, who would it be?
- If you could turn any ride into a food, what would it taste like?
- If this line had a theme song, what would it be?
- What would your Disneyland “superpower” be: skip lines, unlimited snacks, or instant nap?
“Tell Me a Story” Prompts (Perfect for Calming Everyone Down)
These are surprisingly sweet, especially at night.
- What was your favorite moment so far today?
- What’s the funniest thing that happened today?
- What’s something you noticed that made you happy?
- If we could redo one moment today, what would it be?
- What are you most excited to tell someone when we get home?
The “Line Challenge” Games (If You Need a Full Distraction)
When conversation isn’t enough, we turn it into a mini game.
1) Hidden Mickey Hunt
- How many hidden Mickeys can you spot in the queue?
- Who can find the tiniest one?
2) “I Spy” — Disneyland Edition
- I spy something sparkly / shaped like a star / with ears / a backpack / a balloon.
3) Cast Member Appreciation
- What’s one nice thing we can say to the Cast Member when we get to the front?
(Quick, simple, and it sets the tone in a really sweet way.)
Our Secret Weapon: The “Snack & Question” Rule
If we’re in a long line, we do this:
- Every 10 minutes: a new question
- Every 20–30 minutes: a small snack or drink sip break
It turns the wait into manageable chunks instead of one endless “how much longer” tunnel.
Final Thoughts
Waiting in line doesn’t have to feel like lost time. Sometimes those goofy line conversations become the most memorable part of the day—because you’re together, you’re laughing, and nobody is sprinting to the next thing.
And if all else fails?
Ask the most powerful question of all:
“If you could eat one snack right now, what would it be?”
Because the answer is always important. 😄
